In 2020, the world shifted completely in terms of consumer behaviour. Especially consumer viewing behaviours. With most of the world at home for the majority of the year, more entertainment was consumed at home than ever before, inclusive of TV and personal devices. Looking for entertainment, many consumers turned to Youtube. As a result, Youtube has turned into a great place to market brands, as it is a great way to reach a wider audience. Adapting to the growing trend, Youtube has been able to connect with future customers in a way that was not done before. Videos tend to be more engaging than before, and allow your brand to stand out more. By using video creative brands are able to display who they truly are on a larger scale. Youtube is a great place to advertise at the Top of the Funnel. On Youtube brands are mainly advertising for Traffic, this is the first impression a consumer will receive of a brand and gives the brand the opportunity to show off the parts that they want, expanding brand awareness. This is where Youtube differs from other marketing platforms such as Google and Facebook. Where Youtube is mainly used for Brand Awareness and Traffic, Google and Facebook can be used for Remarketing and Conversions, which is where the purchases happen. The 3 Types of YouTube Video AdsThere are three key types of video ads in which you can invest on YouTube: TrueView, Preroll, and Bumpers.

  1. TrueView Ads - This is the most standard ad type on Youtube. Wherein you pay only when a customer clicks on the ad or watches the ad for over 30 seconds.

There are 2 types; Video Discovery Ads, these show up on the YouTube homepage, search results pages, and related videos on YouTube video watch pages. As well as In-Stream Ads, these ads play before the user's video starts. This is the part where they may even have an option to skip the ad after five seconds. These also show up on the Google Display Network.

  1. Preroll Ads - These are ads that can’t be ‘skipped’, they can be played before, during or after the main video.
  2. Bumpers - This is the shortest type of YouTube video ad you can use. The ad will only be played at the beginning of the video and is a maximum of 6 seconds long.
