Standby for 303's comprehensive guide on how to get started on TikTok and take the world by storm! We may have been reluctant at first, but we’ve finally done it. We’ve taken the leap into the world of TikTok and we have to say, we have no regrets! So, for those of you who are yet to take the leap, we thought we’d give you our lowdown to ease you into it. We promise, it will all be worth it when you’re ‘TikTok famous’ and wondering what life was ever like without it.For those of you who are not familiar with the platform, TikTok is an app where you can create 15 to 60 second videos of, well, literally anything. The ‘TikTokers,’ as the users call themselves, use the app to create short clips of themselves dancing, pranking, lip-syncing, vlogging, cooking and so on. Like all other social media apps, users can follow, like and comment on everything they see. However, rather than the focus being on likes, TikTokers are mainly interested in the number of views they get, with the aim being to create a video, which might go viral. So, want to get recognised on TikTok? Here’s our guide to becoming TikTok Famous:Upload, Upload, Upload! When opening the app, you are presented with an endless display of short videos which are carefully curated based on past videos that you have watched and liked. This is called the ‘for you’ page and, to increase your likelihood of getting onto other people’s ‘for you’ pages, you should upload at least once a day, but preferably more. Don’t worry, once you’re hooked, you’re HOOKED, so this won’t be an issue.Quality videosIt should go without saying, but in order to make your videos look more aesthetic and appealing, try to make high quality videos. This will increase the chances of viewers stopping to watch your video. If the video is crisp and clear, people are more likely to engage with your content than if it is blurry. On that note, it’s also important to choose an interesting cover thumbnail so people want to watch your video.Keep up with the TrendsEvery day, TikToker’s are introduced to new trends, whether that be a new dance, challenge or trick. By engaging with these trends, you are increasing the possibility of getting on to other people’s ‘for you’ pages, which is the goal in order to get a viral video. Follow these trends but put an original, personal twist on it so viewers can get to know you as a person, rather than just seeing you copy exactly the same video as someone else. Secondly, create videos which use trending music, so people are more likely to engage with your videos. Upbeat music tends to work best. Top tip: at the bottom of the app is a ‘discover’ section, where you can find the new trends. However, don’t just always follow the trend. Copying trends is helpful to get you started but you are much more likely to get singled out by the TikTok algorithm if you are original.HashtagsBefore uploading a video, users have the chance to add a caption, however the emphasis is not so much on the caption as it would be on other forms of social media. So, this tends to just be a short comment about the video attached. This is then followed by popular hashtags, or hashtags which are relevant to the video. The most popular hashtag which pretty much every user adds to their video is ‘#FYP’, in the hopes that it’ll increase their chances of landing on the ‘for you’ page. InteractJust like every other social media app, users can comment, like and share posts, and doing this will help you get noticed. However, unlike other social media apps, Tik Tok has a ‘duet’ feature. This allows users to interact with other users by creating a video of them reacting to another user's video or copying their dance alongside the original. This can help gain interest on your account and help you to gain followers. So, now that you have been initiated into the world of TikTok, why not follow our tips and give it a go! Who knows, you might just be the next TikTok star...
